  1.          LICENSE AGREEMENT

  3.          BY INSTALLING THE IPJ PROGRAM ON YOUR SYSTEM YOU INDICATE 
  4.          YOUR AGREEMENT TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS. IF YOU 
  5.          DO NOT AGREE TO THEM YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THIS PROGRAM. 
  6.          
  7.          THE IPJ PROGRAM AND THE ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATION (LATER 
  8.          ON COLLECTIVELY REFERRED TO AS IPJ) ARE DISTRIBUTED AS IS. 
  9.          GARY R. SMITH (THE AUTHOR AND OWNER) MAKES NO WARRANTY OF ANY 
  10.          KIND, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO 
  11.          WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR 
  12.          PURPOSE, WITH RESPECT TO THIS SOFTWARE AND ITS DOCUMENTATION. 
  13.          IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHOR AND/OR THE OWNER BE LIABLE FOR 
  14.          ANY DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, LOST SAVINGS, OR ANY 
  15.          OTHER INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THE 
  16.          USE OF, OR THE INABILITY TO USE THIS PROGRAM, EVEN IF THE USER

  20.          IPJ is a copyrighted work, protected by U.S. and 
  21.          International Copyright laws. It is NOT free, freeware, or in 
  22.          the Public Domain. It is distributed as Shareware, which 
  23.          means that you may try it out for 30 days at no cost.  If you 
  24.          determine that it fits your needs and you wish to use it 
  25.          regularly, you must register.  If you choose not to pay the 
  26.          registration fee, you must stop using IPJ after the 30 day 
  27.          evaluation period and remove it from your computer, but you 
  28.          may still keep copies of it and pass them on to others as 
  29.          outlined below.

  31.          You may give individual copies of the unregistered version of 
  32.          IPJ to your friends and associates for evaluation purposes 
  33.          as described above. You must include all the files (described 
  34.          in the IPJDOC.TXT file) that make up IPJ without any 
  35.          modifications, preferably in the original self-extracting 
  36.          archive file.  You may upload IPJ to the public section of 
  37.          a public BBS, but you may not place it in any user group or 
  38.          commercial library or distribute it for a fee or in any way 
  39.          sell copies of it without express, written permission from 
  40.          the author.
  41.          
  42.          Under no circumstances may an unregistered version of IPJ 
  43.          be used in a business, corporate, government, educational, or 
  44.          other institutional environment except for the purpose of 
  45.          evaluation on a single computer.  You may not modify or 
  46.          disassemble IPJ, nor distribute any modified or 
  47.          disassembled versions of IPJ.  IPJ may not be included 
  48.          (bundled) with any other product for any reason whatsoever 
  49.          without prior written permission from Gary R. Smith.

  51.          You may install your registered copy of IPJ on more than 
  52.          one computer at a time ONLY if no more than one of these 
  53.          computers is usually running at the same time.  You may make 
  54.          as many backup copies of IPJ as you need for your personal 
  55.          backup purposes.  You may NOT give, sell, lend, or otherwise 
  56.          transfer copies of the registered version of IPJ to any 
  57.          other person for any reason. 
  58.          
  59.          No version of IPJ may be rented or leased.  Any use or 
  60.          distribution of IPJ which violates this license agreement 
  61.          will be considered a copyright violation, and may be 
  62.          prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

  64.          U.S. Government RESTRICTED RIGHTS: 
  65.          Use, duplication, or disclosure by the Government is subject 
  66.          to restrictions as set forth in subdivision (b)(3)(ii) of the 
  67.          Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at 
  68.          252.227-7013.

  70.          REGISTRATION
  71.          
  72.          The purchase of a disk containing IPJ from a Shareware 
  73.          distributor does NOT constitute registration.  You are granted 
  74.          a limited license to make an evaluation copy for trial use on 
  75.          a private, non-commercial basis for the specific purpose of 
  76.          determining whether IPJ is suitable for your purposes. 
  77.          
  78.          After the 30 day evaluation period, you should either register 
  79.          IPJ, using the included on-line registration form or the 
  80.          Registration Form at the end of this documentation, or 
  81.          discontinue use.

  83.          The benefits of registration include:
  84.          
  85.          * AN UPGRADED VERSION of IPJ immediately upon receipt of your
  86.            registration, with the ability to personalize your Password 
  87.            and more fully customize your settings.
  88.            
  89.          * ONE ADDITIONAL UPGRADE when released, with other planned 
  90.            features currently in development.
  91.  
  92.          * NOTIFICATION OF FUTURE VOLUMES of IPJ, including the text of
  93.            popular books which adapt well to the Interactive Personal
  94.            Journal concept.
  95.          
  96.          * FREE SUPPORT by First Class Mail or via CompuServe for
  97.            the first 90 days after payment, consisting of answering
  98.            your questions and fixing any reproducible authoring errors
  99.            that interfere with the intended use of IPJ.
  100.  
  101.         *  UPGRADE ANNOUNCEMENTS.  As you continue to use IPJ you'll 
  102.            want to keep abreast of new IPJ titles, and improvements and
  103.            enhancements in the product.  Some exciting innovations are 
  104.            in the works!  
  105.  
  106.         *  PRIVILEGED ACCESS to other IPJ users, exchanging tips and      
  107.            techniques on using IPJ as well as shared insights on the 
  108.            text of IPJ.
